DYER, SR. Jefferson Houston Age 80 of Nashville, TN. Died February 14, 2013. He was born on May 14, 1932 in Cookeville, TN to the late Everett Bazz and Ruby Lewis Dyer. Visitation will be from 2 til 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 and from 11:30 a.m. til 1 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Woodmont Christian Church. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Woodmont Christian Church, Hillsboro Road with Dr. Willam R. Barron and Rev. Clay Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane Freeze Dyer; his children, Jeff H. Dyer, Jr. (Jody) of Knoxville, Jay R. Dyer of London, England and Jennifer Dyer Soares of Brentwood; four grandchildren, Ellie and Anna Kate Soares of Brentwood, Houston and Scotty Dyer of Knoxville; sister, Ona V. (Finis) Fox of Dayton, OH; brother, Carroll (Shirley) Dyer of Atlanta, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearlie Bandy and Lucy Billingsly; five brothers, Bazz Dyer II, Wallace Russell Dyer, Dillard Dyer, David Dyer and Bernice Dyer. He served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force Pacific Fleet during the Korean Conflict aboard the U.S.S. Sperry (AS-12). Mr. Dyer was a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Consumer Banking. Mr. Dyer started his service with First American National Bank in Nashville in 1955 and moved to Knoxville in 1975 as President of First American National Bank of Knoxville. He retired in 1988 to serve as Commissioner of Financial Institutions in Governor McWherter's cabinet. In Knoxville, Mr. Dyer served as Chairman of St. Mary's Medical Center, Chairman of the Patricia Neal Foundation Board, Member of the Chancellors Association of the University of Tennessee, Board Member of Cherokee Country Club and Elder at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. Throughout his lifetime, he served on these and many other boards that were important to him, with his focus always on bettering the lives of others. In Nashville, he was a member of Woodmont Christian Church and was a Past Master, Corinthian Lodge #414 F&AM. Pallbearers will be Nephews with Honorary Pallbearers being Jim Smith, Bill Johnson, Miller Cheek, Everett Davis, Kevin Foley, Roy Moriarity, Don Alexander, Clive Anderson, Paul Murphy and the members of Woodmont's 4 o'clock Monday Group.
