Joan Prince Sanders, age 82, born July 8, 1931, passed from this life with her family by her side on November 9, 2013 at NHC Healthcare in Pulaski, TN.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas and Bessie Greene Prince of Maury County. She also joins her loving husband of 50 years, James Ed Sanders; her sister, Virginia Boshers; brother, Thomas Prince.

She leaves to cherish her memories; three loving daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and George Manthey of Knoxville, TN, Sue and Jeff Braly of Pulaski, TN, Brenda and Dan Speer of Pulaski, TN; three grandchildren, James Manthey (Becky) of Roswell, GA, Jenna Braly Parsons (Ryan) of Memphis and Bobby Braly of Murfreesboro; five great grandchildren, Addison, Coleton and Ashlynn Manthey, Reid and Alaina Parsons; sister, Nita Allen of Hendersonville; brother, John Prince (Joanna) of Jackson, MS; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special gratitude to James (Woody) Westmoreland, Rossie Reynolds and Joanne Russell, who provided her many hours of comfort and care. And also the remarkable caregivers and staff of NHC in Pulaski where she was a resident for over two years. And a special thanks to her physician of many years, Dr. Doug Haney.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Joan committed her life to her family and community. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Pulaski, Pulaski Garden Club, Giles County Chamber of Commerce and former member of the Giles County Tourism Board and the Giles County Historical Society. She was also a devoted member of the Lady's VFW auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She began her career with AFLAC in 1969, where she was a pioneer for women in the insurance industry. She won many sales awards and was the founding member of the Pulaski AFLAC office. Her love of gardening inspired her to be a contributing columnist to the Pulaski Citizen for many years. All who passed her home on East College St. will miss her regular holiday decorations. She was a loyal friend and a community leader.

Funeral service at First Baptist Church of Pulaski, 407 South 1st St., Pulaski, TN on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. Service will be conducted by Rev. Tony Gomillion and Rev. Robert Montgomery. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Trey Holley, James Manthey, Ryan Parsons, Bobby Braly, Ed Taliaferro, James O. Prince, Michael Boshers and Rob Abernathy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution be made to the Capital Campaign for the Giles County Public Library, 122 South 2nd St., Pulaski, TN 38478.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at Bennett-May Funeral Home, 1910 Elkton Pike, Pulaski, TN, (931) 363-4551
