BIGHAM, KnoxAge 91, native and long-time resident of Lewisburg, passed away on December 20, 2012, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Atlanta, GA. He was the son of the late Herman Bigham and Julene Willis Bigham. Mr. Bigham married Sara Frances Woods on December 14, 1946 after serving in the Navy. He earned his bachelor's degree in law at Cumberland University. Mr. Bigham was appointed District Attorney General of the 8th District in 1949. A year later he was appointed Assistant Attorney General for the State of Tennessee. From 1956-1961 Mr. Bigham served as Chancellor of the old 5th Chancery Division. After that he returned to private practice. Beginning in 1969 Mr. Bigham served one term as Mayor of Lewisburg. He retired in 1994 at the age of 73. Mr. Bigham was predeceased by his wife of over 65 years, Sara, who passed away on June 7th of this year. Survivors include his daughters, Lucy Woods Bigham of Atlanta and Susan (David) Sherman of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Emily Catherine (Levent) Gosterisli of Atlanta, Rachel Sherman of Alexandria, VA, and Jacob Knox Sherman of Boston, MA; and great-grandson, Aydin Christopher Gosterisli of Atlanta. Funeral services for Mr. Bigham will be conducted on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. on Thursday until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lewisburg or the Marshall County Memorial Library.
