Mabel LAIN Obituary
LAIN, Mabel Nadine KnightWas born September 16, 1919 to John William Knight and Donnie Thompson Knight. At the tender age of 11, Mabel's mother passed away. As a preteen she dedicated her life to serving others and accepting all things with grace and goodness. She gave of herself selflessly as she helped raise her two younger brothers, J.L. Knight and Coy Freeman Knight. Through loving one another deeply and working together, her family survived the Great Depression. During World War II, Mabel served her country by working in a local aircraft factory taking on the life of Rosie the Riveter. When Cecil E. Lain, returned from the war, he married his sweetheart and true love of his life. Together they had three children. As a loving, dedicated wife and mother, Mabel continued to share her love of helping others as she faithfully served God through Forest Grove UMC. Her servant spirit led her to join the Eastern Star to reach beyond her local community. Her passion for learning was strengthened through her involvement in the local chapter of the Home Demonstration Club through the County Agricultural Services. Mabel is preceded in death by her loving parents; adored brothers, and devoted husband, Cecil E. Lain. She is survived by three children, Judy Goins Ross (Bill), Steve Lain (Sheri), Gale Lain. She is beloved by six grandchildren, Amber Goins-Finley (Jerry), Katherine Goins Lee (Peter), Rev. Amanda Diamond (Luke), Dan Lain (Monica), Zachary McCammon (Jessica) Lain McCammon. She will be remembered by six great-grandchildren, Kaillee Galloway, Olivia Lee, Henry Lee, Emma Diamond, Jordan and Julia Lain, Kennedy McCammon, Hampton McCammon. She is also survived by her loving sister-in-law of 65 years, Wilda Rose Lain of Nashville. Visitation with family Sunday, 12 Noon until 8 p.m. at Anderson & Garrett Funeral. Services 2 p.m. Monday, June 28th at Forest Grove UNC. Visitation with family at church two hours prior to service. Interment Forest Grove Cemetery. Mabel was a true source of inspiration and joy to all who knew here. She was filled with grace and beauty, never failing to be grateful for each moment of life.
