Wanda Owens Obituary

OWENS, Wanda Burkett Age 79, died quietly November 28, 2008. Preceded in death by daughter, Clarice Alice Burkett. Survived by husband and best friend, George Owens; daughters, Lynne and Teresa Burkett; son, Lee Burkett; brother, James T. (Polly) Daugherty; granddaughters, Christa (Joe) Evins and Kimberlin Burkett; George's children, Marsha (David) Buffington, Donna Owens, Amy (Dan) Rucker and Dan Owens. A steadfast advocate for persons with developmental disabilities, she was founder of New Horizons Corporation and an instrumental member of the Parent Guardian Association for Clover Bottom Developmental Center. She was a devoted member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2008 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3701 Hillsboro Road, Nashville, TN 37215 with Peter Van Eys, Senior Pastor officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parent Guardian Association for Clover Bottom, 275 Stewarts Ferry Pike, Nashville, TN. 37214-0500 or a charity of choice.
