William Paul ACKERMAN Obituary

ACKERMAN, William Paul "Willie"Age 73, passed away peacefully on the 13th of December, 2012. Born May 1st, 1939 in Nashville, TN. Preceded in death by parents, Corinne and Sam Ackerman and sister, Emma Mai Miller. A member of the Church of Christ, Willie is survived by sisters, Helen (Louis) Demonbreun, Sammie Guthrie, and Frankie Corinne (Jim) Boyte of Nashville; and brother, John Robert Ackerman of Ashville, NC; daughters, Kelly Ackerman of Boise, ID and Angela (James) Pardaen of San Antonio, TX; and son, Trey (Karen) Ackerman, of Nashville; and seven grandchildren, William & Dustin Raney, James, Jacob & Samuel Pardaen, and Erin & Will Ackerman. Willie was a professional musician from the age of 17, a staff drummer for such country music institutions as the Grand Ole Opry, RCA Studios, Hee Haw and, recording artists including Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Ray Price, Louis Armstrong, Faron Young, The Osborne Brothers, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Roger Miller, Johnny Paycheck, Tom T. Hall, Bobby Bare, Jim Reeves, Ray Stevens, Charlie Pride, Charlie McCoy and many, many more. You can still hear him playing on classic hits such as El Paso, Just Walk On By, Amos Moses, The Grand Tour, Wings of a Dove, Girl on the Billboard, Ahab the Arab, Black Rose, and thousands of other recordings. Willie was also active in local politics and law enforcement retiring as a Deputy Sheriff of Davidson County. Having worked two careers spanning several decades, Willie truly lived out his belief that, "every drummer ought to drive a police car." Family and friends will gather from two until six o'clock on Sunday, the 16th of December, 2012 at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at ten o'clock on Monday the 17th of December, 2012 at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs followed by burial at Springhill Cemetery. Memorials may be made in honor of Willie to the Opry Trust Fund, 2804 Opryland Drive, Nashville, Tennessee 37214.
