William HEALY Obituary

HEALY, William Raymond (Bill)Who died Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010, was born in New Brunswick, NJ on March 28, 1924. He graduated from Baylor School, Chattanooga in 1942, and served in the 88th Calvary reconnaissance squadron in the European Theater during WWII. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for gallantry in action. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1948 where he was a captain of the football team, and received All American honors. He was a member of the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame, Georgia Tech Hall of Fame and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. He was the President of Volunteer Sales Company, a food brokerage firm serving the tri state areas of Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. He was a founding member of the Honors Course in Chattanooga, and a member of the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, Sawgrass Country Club and a member of the U.S. Seniors. He served on the vestry at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain, as Senior and Junior Warden, and is now a member of Christ Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Mildred Carothers; three children, William R. (Chip) Healy, Jr. of Nashville, Jane H. Bourne of Atlanta, and Robertson L. (Rob) Healy of Chattanooga; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Contributions can be made to Vicars Landing Employee Scholarship Fund, 1000 Vicars Landing Way, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082; Transitional Living, 840 Youngs Lane, Nashville, TN 37207; or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL on Friday, September 24th at 2 p.m., where the family will receive friends following the service in the church parish hall. There will also be a graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery, Chattanooga, at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 1st. CRAIG FUNERAL HOME CREMATORY MEMORIAL PARK is in charge of arrangements, (904) 669-2762.
