William C. Anderson, M.D.

Nashville, TN

William C. Anderson, M.D. of Nashville, passed away suddenly on November 19, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Sue Horner Anderson and parents, Eugene and Mabel Anderson.

Born and raised in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Dr. Anderson graduated from Vanderbilt University, where he was a member of the golf team. He also graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, completed his internal medicine training at Vanderbilt, and completed a fellowship in Houston, Texas. Following three years of service in the United States Navy, Dr. Anderson practiced internal medicine in Nashville for over 35 years, the last ten of which were with The Frist Clinic. After overcoming his own battle with addiction, he went on to assist countless physicians with their struggles by assisting in the development of the Impaired Physicians Program with the Tennessee Medical Association. He also was the Medical Director of Cumberland Heights for 24 years.

Dr. Anderson was an avid fan of Vanderbilt athletics, a member of Hillwood Country Club for 50 years, a Life Master in the game of bridge, and a longtime member of St. Henry Catholic Church. But, most importantly, he was a man of deep faith, a devoted husband to his wife Sue, for whom he cared so beautifully until her death in January 2013, a loving and caring father to his four sons, and a beloved "G-Daddy" to his eight grandchildren.

He is survived by sons, Bill Anderson, Jr., John (Glenda), Michael, and Steve (Mindy); daughter-in-law, Debra Anderson of Atlanta, GA; his brother, Edward (Kay) and grandchildren, Melissa, Lauren, Michael, Chris, David, Matt, Eric and Rachel Anderson.

Visitation will occur at St. Henry's Catholic Church, 6401 Harding Pike on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Henry on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cumberland Heights, 8283 River Road, Nashville, TN 37209; or St. Henry Catholic Church, 6401 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37205.
