Sister Helen Kain
Sister Helen Kain, age 73, died peacefully on April 10, 2014 at Mercy Convent in Nashville TN.
She was born September 16, 1940 in Nashville, TN, the daughter of James Michael and Margaret Beehan Kain. After graduating from St. Bernard Academy in Nashville, Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy in Cincinnati, OH, in 1958, and was a Sister of Mercy for 56 years. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Our Lady of Cincinnati College in Cincinnati, OH, a Master's in Education from Memphis State University and further professional education from George Peabody College for Teachers.
Her ministry included teaching in parish schools in Tennessee. She is fondly remembered by those she taught at St. Bernard Academy, Nashville. Her reputation as a math teacher remains one of notable effectiveness.
Due to health issues, Sister Helen was missioned to Mercy Convent in 2006 where she received loving care and kindness from the sisters and staff. She responded to all of her visitors with a gentle smile and a twinkle in her eye.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Michael Kain, Jr.; her nephew, Mike Jerrell; and her niece, Jean Marie Quirk.
She is survived by her sisters, Betty Wooten, Mary Thomas and Dorothy Kain all of Nashville, Peggy Quirk of Arlington, TX; her brother, Pat Kain (Frances); 10 nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; 9 great great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Mercy Convent on Tuesday, April 15th from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 15th at 1 p.m. followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
