Judith Ann Lovin

Nashville, TN

Age 74, died at St. Thomas Hospital March 27, 2014 from complications with a stroke.

She was a cherished mother, grandmother "Dabu" and friend. Our Mom was the most amazing woman! Dynamic and passionate - caring, thoughtful, hardworking - and most of all, loving without boundaries or prejudices. There are endless lessons that we all learned from her - whether it was through her amazing gift of speech and communication - or the silent lessons we learned - through her actions.

Preceded in death by her son, Lars Stiles.

Survived by daughter, Lindsey (Steve) Hislop; stepson, Kerry (Kathy) Stiles; stepdaughter, Kim (John) Wheeler; grandchildren, Bailey, Brock & Brittni Hislop, Ashley Holland, Haley Kemper & KJ Stiles, and Trey & Mallory Wheeler; sisters, Mary Alice (Louis) Sherritze and Charlotte (Roger) Quincoses.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Massey Hall in Cheekwood, 1200 Forrest Park Drive, with a reception following the service.

Judith had a lifelong love affair with music and the other arts, but especially with music. From learning indigenous music from her father when she was growing up, through her time in U.T. Singers, and throughout adulthood, she was an active participant in making music. Her passion led her to volunteer to teach music in the public schools during her children's school years. When she became president of the Nashville Entertainment Association, she devoted much interest and energy to bringing together the music industry and the public schools at the local and state levels, and in educating the community about the importance of music in the schools. When the Tennessee Department of Education formed the Tennessee Arts Academy, a nationally recognized summer program for teachers of the arts, Judith was an encourager and served as the first chair of the Academy Advisory Board, which became the Foundation Board of Directors. She remained a member of the board until her illness, and has since been an Honorary Lifetime member of the Board.
