Ella Jane Russell Davenport was released from this life on April 26, 2014, at the age of 79, at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton. Mrs. Davenport resided in Denton, TX since 2011 and is formally from Nashville, TN.
Jane was born on December 17, 1934 in Somerville, AL to William Talmage Russell and Lena M. (Self) Russell. After high school, she went to Harding University in Searcy, AR and received her degree in Business Education. While at Harding, Jane met the love of her life, D. Dewayne Davenport. They married on September 2, 1956 in Morgan County, AL. Jane was a Christian and a servant of the Church of Christ.
Jane was an educator for 32 years, teaching in several states and overseas. She and her husband served three tours to Africa as missionaries for the Church of Christ from 1964-1972. Jane retired from Ezell-Harding Christian School in Antioch, TN in 2003. She was a lifelong advocate and volunteer for the Tennessee Right to Life in Nashville, TN. Jane enjoyed her work with her church, ladies Wednesday bible class, and serving the community. She was passionate about Christian education, preserving life, and serving her Savior.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. D. Dewayne Davenport.
She is survived by her son, Russell D. Davenport of Garland, TX; daughter, Mary C. Martin and husband Jason R. Martin of Krum, TX; grandchildren, Zachary Martin and wife Alex (Watson) Martin, Myrla Martin, Lillian Davenport, Brendan Davenport, Jedidia Martin, Olivia Davenport, and Mariya Martin; great-grandchildren, Isaac Martin and Curly Martin. She is also survived by a host of beloved relatives, nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly. Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise and call her blessed…
The family will receive friends for visitation at Mount Olivet Funeral Home in Nashville, TN, Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. followed by a funeral service Friday, May 2, 2014 at 9 a.m. The internment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.
