Edith Upton Tucker

Nashville, TN

Age 96, May 5, 2014. Edith Tucker was educated in the public schools of Obion County. She attended college at Freed-Hardeman, Pepperdine and Peabody of Vanderbilt, where she earned a bachelor's degree. She partnered with her husband, Paul M. Tucker (1914-2000) in ministry, serving eight congregations of the churches of Christ in Alabama, California, Mississippi and Tennessee; and traveling across the USA and in several European nations. She taught in Sunday schools, vacation Bible schools, and teacher training workshops. From 1962 until her death, her home congregation was the Crieve Hall Church of Christ, where she taught a women's class for many years. She also worked as a librarian at Lipscomb Academy and University, 1957-68, and Goodpasture Christian School, 1968-81. She enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting; and was an avid fan of college basketball and University of Alabama football.

Preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Tucker; daughter-in-law, Terttu Maria Tucker; brother, Wayne Upton; sister, Rebecca Board; nephews, Wayne Upton, Jr. & John R. Board, Jr., and niece, Mary Upton.

She is survived by sons, M. Timothy Tucker and John Mark (Barbara) Tucker; grandsons, Miika (Anne) Tucker, Paavo Tucker, and his fiancée, Laurie Bennie; and niece, Beverly Board.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road.

Graveside services and interment will be conducted Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, by Wavell Stewart. Active Pallbearers: Wavell Stewart, Charlie McVey, Dick Brackett, Leland Watts, Dennis Hood and James Wood. Honorary Pallbearers: her Sunday morning Bible Class.

A Memorial service will be conducted by Bill Watkins & Tim Frizzell on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 7 p.m., with visitation from 5-7 p.m., at Crieve Hall Church of Christ, 4806 Trousdale Dr., Nashville, TN 37220.
