Robert Eric Watkins Obituary
Robert Eric Watkins

Nashville, TN

Age 69, died on June 10, 2014. Bob was born in 1945 in New Market, MD to Clifford and Nancy Watkins. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1967. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1969 through 1971. It was there that he was exposed to Agent Orange, the likely cause of his lung cancer. After his discharge from the military, Bob served as an International Trade Specialist for the United States Department of Commerce and, later, as the Director of International Affairs for the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers' Association. During President Ronald Reagan's second term, Bob served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Automotive Affairs. He moved to Nashville in 1989, where he worked for the Metropolitan Nashville Government in Purchasing, until leaving to become Director of Purchasing for Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Bob was a wonderful, devoted, and caring husband and father. He leaves behind his wife, Kathy Morante, children Emily, Benjamin, and Sybil Watkins, and step-daughters, Leslie and Karen Principe. Bob's easy laugh, kind heart and generous spirit will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on June 27 at 2 p.m. at the Massey Hall at Cheekwood, 1200 Forrest Park Drive, Nashville, TN. Bob was greatly comforted through his illness by his wonderful friends at Gilda's Club of Nashville and the caring professionals from Alive Hospice. Memorials may be made to either charity in his honor.
