Everett Kidwell Smith, Jr.
Age 83, "Buster", "Tiber", died June 18, 2014 at St. Thomas West.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Edna (McCracken) Smith; wife, Elizabeth "Ann" Bell Smith; daughter, Tracey Ann Smith; siblings, Vivian (Bill) Hill, Catherine (Doug) White, Anna Laura (John) Closson and Gloria (Dr. Walter) Metz.
He attended Peabody Demonstration School and graduated from West End High School Class of '48 as an "All City" basketball forward on West End High School's Championship team. He received college basketball scholarships to David Lipscomb College and Peabody College for Teachers. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Retiring from the University of Tennessee and the Tennessee Center for Government Training in 1985, he continued with other varied businesses with his wife and daughters -Smith & Company, Inc., Ann's Tanning and Bellevue Tanning Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela and granddaughter, Kailey Eden of Nashville; and eight nieces and nephews, with their extended families. Known as "Uncle Buster" to Doug White, Jr. (Peggy), Karen Graham, Martin Metz (Kelly), Donald Closson (Yvette), all of Nashville, Cheryl Hill Anderton (John) of Manchester, Carol Closson Etges (Dr. Dave) of Colorado, Charles Metz (Audrey), Doug Metz (Cynthia), Karla Metz Tropea (Tony) of Maryland, Lauretta Metz Brown (Jim) of Florida, Paul Booker (Joyce) of Florida, Harold Vance Bell of Springfield and Vanessa Bell Brooks (Steve) of Florida, Deborah Bell Shrout (Scott) and Michael Bell of Rockwood, Tondra Bell Gentry (Harry) of Knoxville.
He will be remembered for his influence on all our lives, his support and advice, intellect and whit. Donations may be made to the
