Eugene Hyman Bowers, Jr.

Nashville, TN

Eugene Hyman Bowers, Jr., age 88, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2014.

Survived by his wife of 68 years, Jeannine Bowers; three children, Phillip Bowers, Jan (Robert) Pruitt and Liz Connor; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Mr. Bowers served in the Normandy Invasion, arriving in Arromanches, France on June 10, 1944, later serving also in Holland and Belgium. After marrying his wife in France, they came back to Nashville, where he obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from George Peabody College. Throughout his life, he worked in the publishing and book industries for the Methodist Publishing House, Doubleday Publishers, and the Tennessee Library and Archives. He was a Shriner and a 33rd degree Mason and lifetime member of West End United Methodist Church.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at West End United Methodist Church with visitation held before and after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, , or Children's Hospital Fund of the Al Menah Temple.
