Baton Rouge, LA

Ellen Frances Karnes, age 96, died on July 13, 2014. Born in Portland, TN on June 21, 1918.

Graduate of East Nashville High School, 1936, and David Lipscomb College, 1938, both in Nashville, TN. Received B.A. degree from LSU, 1941. Held secretarial positions at LSU, LA State Dept. of Agriculture and St. James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge. Member of Goodwood Blvd. Church of Christ, Baton Rouge.

Preceded in death by parents, Walter Lipscomb Karnes and Ann Rebecca (Annie) Hatfield Karnes; brothers, Houston, David and Sam Karnes.

Survived by numerous cousins (hers, his and ours), among whom is Mary Jennings Hatfield Lewis (Jenni) of Birmingham, AL.

Graveside service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Nashville, TN, Monday, July 21st at 10 a.m., Rabenhorst on Government Street in Baton Rouge is in charge of arrangements - there will be no visitation.

Special thanks to The Hospice of Baton Rouge (whom Ellen jokingly referred to as "Hostage" of Baton Rouge), Sonja and the other caregivers, along with her long time friend, Carolyn Bennett. She called Terry, Ali and Lisa her "angels" who were there for her and with her to the very end. She's our angel now.
