Loretta Porter Watts
Loretta Porter Watts, age 100, passed away in Nashville on Monday, July 21, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born February 16, 1914 to Fred and Kathleen Brown Porter in Water Valley, MS.
She is survived by daughters, Nancy Watts Alexander of Nashville and Kathleen Watts Mulcahy of Alexandria, VA; son, Stephen Eugene Watts of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Amy Alexander Leonard of Nashville, Kathleen Mulcahy Natale of Cedar Park, TX, and Jane Loren and Jean Preston Watts of Marietta, GA; and four great-grandchildren.
Loretta graduated from the University of Memphis, then known as West Tennessee State Teachers' College, in 1936, with a double major in English and Home Economics. During her college years, she was selected Cotton Carnival Princess.
Loretta married Eugene E. Watts on October 30, 1937 and they were married for 46 years until his death in 1983.
Her lifelong passions included her family, travel, cooking, fishing, gardening, and serving her church community. Loretta was a long-time member of Whitehaven Presbyterian Church in Memphis, where she lived most of her life. She was a church circle leader and active supporter of Presbyterian Youth Fellowship programs. Loretta attended First Presbyterian Church while in Nashville.
