GLANKLER III, Mr. Eugene T. (Trip)Age 56 of Franklin, TN, native of Alexandria, LA, died Sunday, August 23, 2009 in a motorcycle accident in the beautiful countryside near his home. A celebration of the life of Trip Glankler will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, August 28th at Kramer Funeral Home in Alexandria, LA. A Memorial service will be held Saturday in Louisiana, at Nairobi Farm. The family will honor Trip with a Private Memorial in Franklin on Thursday, September 3, 2009. Trip was a 1971 graduate of Holy Savior Menard Central High School, and received his Bachelor of Architecture in 1976 from Louisiana State University. In Alexandria, he practiced architecture with his father Gene, at Glankler and Associates from 1976-1992, and with Ballard and Associates from 1992-2005. In 2005, he joined Sizeler and Associates in New Orleans. Upon moving to Nashville in 2007, he became an associate with the firm of Gresham, Smith and Partners in their healthcare division. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and recently received his accreditation as LEED AP. His professional achievements included a wide range of commercial designs throughout the south. He was honored with numerous awards during his career, including those for his design work on the Louisiana Habitat at the Alexandria Zoo. Trip was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fly fishing across the country with his wife, children and friends. He was also known for his love of cooking, especially the art of barbecue. He led award winning barbecue teams in various competitions. His current team was scheduled to compete over the Labor Day weekend in Middle Tennessee. The competition will honor Trip during the upcoming Pig In the Grove Competition. His teammates, Tom Liddell and Ken Harb, will compete in his honor. He was active in numerous civic and philanthropic organizations, including the United Way, Rotary Club, Hope House and Ducks Unlimited. He was a past president of the Pineville, LA Rotary Club, and chaired several committees and fundraisers for DU in Central Louisiana. Trip was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lowther Glankler. He is survived by his wife, Traci of Franklin; three stepchildren, Clay Kays and wife Colie, and daughter, Vegas (and a new baby on the way) of Pineville, LA; Ashley Trahan and husband Alcee, and their children, Desmond, Tanner, Skye and Amalie (with a new baby on the way) of Maurice, LA; and Brittany Kays and boyfriend, James Gambill of Franklin. He is also survived by his father, Eugene T. Glankler, Jr. and wife, Helga of Alexandria; three brothers, Leslie Paul Glankler and wife Colette of Alexandria, LA, Geoffrey Alexander Glankler of Montgomery, TX and Christopher Alan Glankler of Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Red River Bank, 1412 Centre Court, Alexandria, LA 71301, for a scholarship in the name of Trip Glankler, for students pursuing an education at the LSU School of Architecture.
