STEELE, Rachel LoveOf Nashville. Born May 13, 1952; died August 7, 2010. Preceded in death by her father, Allen M. Steele; grandparents, Dr. Jack and Damaris Witherspoon, and W. Alexander Steele and Genevieve Lewis Steele. Rachel is survived by her mother, Damaris Witherspoon Steele; sisters, Damaris Steele of London, England, Genevieve Steele (Don) Edwards of Atlanta and Lilli Steele of Washington, DC; brother, Allen M. Steele (Linda) of Whately, MA; niece, Florence Miller; nephews, Nicholas Steele and Jack Edwards; and cousins, Ginger Steele Stephenson, W. Alexander Steele, Lewis M. Steele, Donald M. Steele, Edward T. Steele, Terry Steele Lawrence, John Witherspoon and Bill Witherspoon. A native of Nashville, Rachel was a graduate of Robertson Academy, Harpeth Hall School, Duke University, and the Duke University School of Law. While growing up, Rachel was very able and competent in many areas, as state diving champion for three years, and third in her class at Harpeth Hall. While a student at Duke, she also taught diving. Rachel was always very focused and went on to a fine career as a lawyer, which was unfortunately cut short before she reached her potential. She was an active member of the Downtown Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an elder and as clerk of the session. Most of all, she was a kind and loving daughter and sister. Her death leaves a gap that will not be filled. A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 2010 in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Road, Nashville, with the Rev. William T. Bryant and the Rev. Sandra Randleman officiating. A private burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Franklin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rachel's memory to the William Cain Revolving Loan Fund for the benefit of the TN Lawyers Assistance Program, 200 - 4th Avenue North, Nashville 37219 or to the charity of your choice.
