MALONE, Bettye S.Of Brentwood, passed away peacefully at her home on December 9, 2012, surrounded by family and loved ones. Preceded in death by father, Frank S. Shelton and step-father, James Eugene Martin of Clarksville; husband, Charles Harry Malone of Gallatin; and brother, Frank G. Martin of Pensacola, FL. Survived by mother, Lillie Mae Martin (102 years old) of Clarksville; children: Melodie (Dan) Malone-Frey of Bisbee, AZ; Melinda (Eddie) Wayland of Nashville; Charles Harry Malone, Jr. of Tampa,FL; her fiance' and loving companion of 11 years, Elmo Tillman; and her dear friend and assistant, Chella. Blessed with 8 grandchildren, Emily Munoff, Malone and Marian Wayland, Chas, Mary-Stevens, Kayleigh, Hayes, and Emily-Grace Malone. A nationally renowned artist, Bettye's originals and limited edition prints are exhibited in numerous galleries and private collections nationwide, and in Canada and Europe. Bettye taught art in Gallatin for 10 years before moving to Brentwood where she continued to paint and exhibit her work in area shows as well as in her home gallery. She was active in many social, professional and charitable associations, including Vanderbilt Bridge Center, West Hills Women's Club and the Tennessee Art League. A former member of First United Methodist Church in Gallatin, she was an active member of Brentwood United Methodist Church and the Wesley Forum Class. A loving and giving mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, and niece, Bettye took great delight in her family and was a true blessing to them all. An avid bridge player, she particularly enjoyed playing duplicate bridge with her regular bridge partner, Jim Lesch. In addition to her abilities as an artist, Bettye was an accomplished pianist, with a keen sense of humor and gifted in social graces. She was well known for her superb cooking and gardening skills. Betty always strived to glorify God through her many creative talents and abilities. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 14 at Brentwood United Methodist Church with Bishop Robert Spain and Dr. Jeffrey Wilson officiating. Visitation with the family will begin at 10 a.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elmo Tillman, Charlie Malone, Eddie Wayland, Dan Frey, Tom Harris, Harold Harris, Ron Smithfield, David Smithfield and members of the Wesley Forum Sunday School Class.
