DAVENPORT, Amos Lloyd Age 87, was born on March 21, 1925 in Yellville, AR; passed away on March 3, 2013 in Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mae Davenport, and a brother, Leon Davenport, all of Yellville, AR. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Elnora Burnette Davenport; son, Robert (Judy) Davenport; daughter, Lynda Davenport; grandchildren, Whitney Byrd, Jordan and McKenzie Davenport, all of Nashville; sisters, Alma Raines and Imogene Neff of Tulsa, OK, Joretta Marcussen of St. Joe, AR, and several nieces and nephews. He was a long-time member of Brentwood Church of Christ. Mr. Davenport preached for churches of Christ in Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee for over 50 years. For several years, he also sold life insurance for Midwestern United Life Insurance Company. He served his country honorably as part of the 94th Naval Construction Battalion (Navy Seabees) in Hawaii and Guam during World War II. He received a bachelor's degree from Harding University in Searcy, AR and two master's degrees from the University of Louisville and George Peabody College in Nashville. He then taught special education on the junior high and high school levels in Louisville, KY and in Nashville, TN, retiring from Metro schools in 1989. He will be remembered for his faith, humility, love for God, family, country, and his fellow man. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from twelve-thirty until two-thirty at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at two-thirty in the Dignity Hall of Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home.
