Marian Tilley STONEY Obituary


STONEY, Marian Tilley Age 83 of Nashville. Passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, at St. Thomas Hospital. Mrs. Stoney was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Barry Tilley and John Hill Tilley, MD. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Dr. William S. Stoney of Nashville; her son, Bill Stoney, of Nashville, TN; daughters, Marian S. Blazes (David), of Bethesda, MD, Carol Stoney, of Arlington, VA, and Shannon Stoney, of Cookeville, TN; grandchildren, Libby Blazes, Jack Blazes, and Sam Blazes of Bethesda, MD, and Will Bush, of Iowa City, IA; sister, Carol Overbey (Beasley), and numerous nieces and nephews. Marian Stoney grew up in Lebanon, TN. She graduated from Ward-Belmont and then attended Randolph Macon College and Vanderbilt University, where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. When she graduated from Vanderbilt, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mrs. Stoney served for many years on the board of the Florence Crittenton Home. She was a member of the Canby Robinson Society, the Centennial Club, the Study Club, the Geoffrey Wooler Society, Deer Park Garden Club, and St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville. Her children and grandchildren brought her great happiness. She enjoyed the friendship of her bridge club and study club members. Her family wishes to acknowledge the care and friendship given to her during her illness by her caregivers: Gracie Bland, Rita Parker, Alberta White, Gwen Beech, Nancy Sanders, Donza White, and Denise Cullom. The family prefers in lieu of flowers, that a memorial gift could be made to the Canby Robinson Society, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, or any . Funeral services will be conducted at St. George's Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, with a visitation time from 10-11 a.m. that morning at the church.
