BLACKMAN, JR., John WilliamsBorn January 29, 1919 to Frank Ogilvie Blackman and John Blackman of Brentwood, TN, went to be with his Lord on September 18, 2013. He was the devoted husband of Matoka Gainey Blackman of Autryville, NC, for 67 years; father of Nancy Lawrence, Donna (Salter) Baxter and Mindy Apple; grandfather of Benjamin Apple and Joshua, Zachary, and Moriah Salter. Anne Olson, sister, and Frank Blackman, brother, preceded him in death. He was dear uncle to their children and the Gainey families. Known as the Singing Milkman, John worked for Purity Dairies for 23 years. He was tenor soloist and beloved member of McKendree United Methodist and the Excelsior Class as well as a vital member of the Oglesby Community Club and Bible Class of the Air team. He served in the Merchant Marines in WWII. John's homecoming service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 1 p.m. at McKendree UMC with visitation following.
