Edwin Lee "Rip" Nix

Nashville, TN

Mr. Edwin Lee "Rip" Nix, age 80, long-time resident of Madison and Goodlettsville, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Skyline Medical Center.

The Madison, Tennessee native was the son of the late Grady and Mildred Capps Nix. Mr. Nix was a 1953 graduate of Isaac Litton High School and worked with his dad for many years at Nix Garage. He played football for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was former owner of Nix Construction Company and served as a deputy for the Davidson County Sheriff's Department. He was the inventor of the Line-a-Bed, which was patented in Madison in the early 1970's.

Mr. Nix is survived by his wife of 29 years, Ira Pilkinton Nix; a son, Edwin G. Nix; two daughters, Cynthia (Gary) Howard and Hope Baker; a sister, Mildred Grammer; four grandchildren, Chelsey Nix, Alec Baker, Matthew Howard and Camille Baker; one great-grandchild, Makiah White.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosie Carter Nix; two nephews, Val and Todd Grammer.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 2 p.m., at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Madison Campus, 607 B Larkin Springs Road, Madison, with Pastors Myron Johnson and Byron Corbett officiating. Burial will be in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.

The family will visit with friends Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 4 until 8 p.m., at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Peach, Cliff Prosser, Dr. Jim Root, Richard Odom, Hugh Bills, Buggs Carter, Ralph McDonald, Drew Maddox, Pete Peden, and Herb Bennett.

The family would like to thank the staff at Vanco Manor for their loving care.

Memorials may be made to the Seventh-day Adventist Church or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, (615) 865-1101.
