Charles Hackney Obituary

Charles E. Hackney

Goodlettsville, TN

Age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2014.

He was born October 20, 1931, in Old Hickory, TN, and was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Roscoe and Delia Christian Hackney, as well as siblings, Mary Ruth Hackney, Kenneth Hackney, Peggy Modrall, Thelma Sherrill, and Jane Williams.

For nearly 54 years, he was the beloved husband of Frances Anderson Hackney. He was the loving father of Mark (Michelle) Hackney of Goodlettsville and Stephen (Alison) Hackney of Hendersonville; grandfather of John Mark, Hope, Josh, Cole, and Preston Hackney. He also leaves behind his sister, Leona Hall, and brothers, Jerry, Bob, Ernie, Ronnie, and Pat Hackney, along with 10 nephews and 12 nieces.

A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, his love for God and His Word was evident. He graduated magna cum laude from David Lipscomb College with a bachelor's degree, and from University of Tennessee with a Master's Degree in Social Work.

So humble and kindhearted, his life was filled with love for his family, his church, his books, and, when his health had allowed, his garden. He will live in our hearts forever.

Celebration of Charles' Life will be at Forest Lawn on Tuesday, September 23, at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, September 22, from 3 until 7 p.m., and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goodlettsville Church of Christ Mission Committee or Alive Hospice Residence.

Brother Hackney was an outstanding Christian man, an encouragement to all who visited, a blessing to all who knew him. He professed Christ in everything he did.

May the Almighty who guards his sleep comfort and anchor his family.
