In 1969 after graduating from MTSU I had the opportunity to be a back up drummer for Leon and Bonnie at clubs in Peoria Illinois and the Speakeasy in Washington plus other cities. He was a wonderful entertainer and really good person. My condolences to Bonnie.

I met Leon in 1974 when I was in the house band in a club in Charleston, WV. He had left Nashville and had moved to Charleston. We backed him on his shows there for a time and we got very close, performing together and going to baseball games. My wife and I honeymooned in the same town as he in Canada, which he recommended. He then relocated to Wheeling, WV. to work at the Wheeling Jamboree, where my band entered a competition while he was MC. I then moved to Nashville in 1986 and lost contact with Leon. My wife and I still live here and I am so disappointed that I didn't know that he had returned and was ailing. I so much would like to have seen him again. I visited his grave upon hearing of his passing. What a nice and talented man. I learned from him and will always treasure his memory and our friendship.
