Richard W. "Dick" Maddox of 8960 ST. RT. 415, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was born August 20, 1928, in Elmira, NY, the son of Raymond W. and Flora E. (Roby) Maddox. Dick graduated from Elmira Southside in 1946, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army for two years. He received his Retail Business Management Degree at Utica Tech in 1950. Dick's successful retail career began at Sears-Roebuck & Co. in Elmira, NY. He then worked 20 plus years as the Men's Clothing Buyer at the S. F. Iszard's Co. also in Elmira. He went on to complete his retail career at JC Penney. Dick loved following his many children and grandchildren's sporting events, and was an avid NY Mets fan. Dick was known for his sharp wit and great sense of humor. He also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, Big Band music, shooting pool and golfing – In 1957 Dick played on the Sears Roebuck Golf Team at the Mark Twain Golf Course where his team completed 3 ? rounds (490 strokes) considered then to be the most holes played in 1 day at Mark Twain. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, and faithfully donated to many charitable organizations including the local PBS station. Richard is survived by his wife, Bette J. Maddox of 56 years, his 8 children, Roger, Tom, Bill (Tami), Carol (Carl) Holmes, Kim (Dave) Townsend, Karen, Gary, Crystal (Kirk) Ruddock; Grandchildren, Valerie (LaGesse), Justin, Nicholas, Marissa, Ray, Andrea, Toni, Alex, Jacob & Addison. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Gary and daughter Susan. The family will receive friends at Acly-Stover Funeral Home on Friday, April 18, 2014, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Campbell, NY. Nona W. Manry, age 93, of Corning, NY passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Seneca View Nursing Home, Montour Falls, NY. She was born on March 8, 1921 in Painted Post, NY, the daughter of George P. and Marian (Caulkins) Robinson. Nona was a graduate of Painted Post High School. Nona later married Robert Manry, Sr. who predeceased her in 1988. Nona worked as a laborer for Corning Glass Works, Corning, NY, retiring after 26 years of service. She was a lifetime member of the Corning Eagles Club, the Corning V.F.W, and the American Legion, John P. Eaton Post. In her free time Nona enjoyed making crafts and teaching others her trade. She also loved to knit and sew. She is survived by two sons: Lester (Joan) Welty of Mayfield Heights, OH, and Robert (Carol) Manry, Jr. of Tampa, FL; two daughters: Nona Pitts of Corning, NY, and Lorraine (David) Woodard of Beaver Dams, NY; over 60 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, and step-grandchildren; sister: Aimee Brothers of Painted Post, NY; and brother: George Robinson of New Jersey. In addition to her parents and husband, Nona was predeceased by a son: David Welty; a daughter, Linda Lee Welty; two sisters: Marian and Lettie; and brothers: Lee and Robert. Friends and family are invited to call at Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, NY on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:00am. Burial will take place in Bath National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
