Benny V. Cavallaro, age 83, of Corning went to be with his wife in Heaven on Saturday, March 1, 2014 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.
Benny was born on April 16, 1930 in Corning, NY. He is the son of the late Dominic and Ameila (Capo) Cavallaro.
He married Lois M. (Scheepsma) Cavallaro on April 30, 1955 at St. Mary's Church in Elmira.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Lois M. Cavallaro on March 6, 2012.
Benny enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and nothing was more cherished then the time he spent with his family.
He was the definition of a great man and a role model.
His love for his family was unparalleled and he lived his life for them.
He was an incomparable father, grandfather, uncle and friend and most of all what a loving husband should be.
To witness the relationship that Benny and Lois shared made you believe in true love. The legacy of Benny and Lois is timeless.
He served in the United States Army from 1948 until his Honorable Discharge in 1952. At the age of 60, Benny retired from Corning Glass Works in September of 1990.
He was a beloved member of the community and dedicated to the betterment of it. Benny was a lifelong member of All Saints Parish, the Marconi Lodge, and the VFW
Post #524 in Corning.
He is survived by three sons: Joseph (Hope) Cavallaro of Painted Post, NY, John (Brenda) Cavallaro of Lindley, NY, and James (Michele) Cavallaro of Corning, NY; grandchildren: Heather (Chris) Hortman of Corning, NY, Michael Cavallaro of Los Angeles, CA, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Swanson of Caton, NY, Amber (Chris) Card of Corning, NY, Brooke (Carter) Payne of Painted Post, NY, and Alexys Harrington of Corning, NY; five great-grandchildren; sisters: Kay Andrade, Mary Butcher, Ann Schutt, Eileen Carlineo, and Rosemary Fritz, and brothers, Larry and Ross Cavallaro; and several nieces and nephews.
Benny was predeceased by his wife, Lois M. Cavallaro, his parents, Dominic and Ameila Cavallaro; sister, Josephine Sloth, and brothers: Nick, Julio, and Tony Cavallaro.
A burial service with military honors will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Park Avenue, Corning, NY. A celebration of Benny's life will follow at the Marconi Lodge in Corning, NY.
