Campbell | James E. Burton, age 85, of Campbell, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. James was born on November 5, 1928 in Corning, NY, to James E. and Elizabeth (Rooney) Burton. He married Joyce M. Hooey on July 31, 1954 in Campbell, NY; she predeceased him on May 22, 2014.
James was an ex-Army cook, serving his country for two years. He was employed by Corning Glass Works in Corning, NY as a laborer, retiring after 50 years of service.
He is survived by one daughter, Vickie L. Burton of Campbell, NY; half-sister: Lynette Stewart; nephews, Gary Drozda, Richard Burton and Dorman Hooey; nieces: Fay Culver, Terry Drozda, Jodi Burton, Beth Burton and Marlene Hooey; and several cousins.
In addition to his wife, James was predeceased by a sister, Nina Drozda, and a brother, Thomas Burton.
Calling hours will be on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC, 14 East Pulteney Street in Corning. A funeral will immediately follow there, with Rev. James Moore officiating. Burial will be in Barnard Cemetery in Caton, NY.
