Shirley L. Phillips, age 87 of Corning, NY slipped away peacefully and quietly to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday April 3, 2014 at Corning Centers in Corning.
Shirley was born on March 24, 1927 in Corning to Alexander and the late Margaret (Peck) Laughlin. She married Harry Phillips in 1946 in Corning.
Shirley worked at Steuben Glass until World War II was over, and then worked for King's Dairy as a bookkeeper. She retired from First National Bank after having been a bookkeeper there for 15 years. She was an active member of Beartown Road Alliance Church. Shirley loved God and lived for Him each day. She loved to help others and when she saw others in need, she jumped in and helped.
She is survived by her husband, partner, and love of 68 years, Harry; two daughters, Jeanette (Ernie) Stanton of Corning and Martha Force of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Jamie (Kevin) Walter, Scott (Katrina) Stanton, and Dr. Crista (Barry) Penland; great grandchildren, Darinda Walter, Emma Stanton, and Taylor Croom; best friend and sister-in-law Clara Laughlin; many nieces and nephews. Shirley, the youngest, was predeceased by fifteen brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be held at Beartown Road Alliance Church on Saturday April 12th from 2 until 4 PM where funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor David Bretch officiating.
