He was the middle child of seven children, two of whom are still living: Alma Dobson, Atlantic City, and Byron Young, Cape Coral, Florida.

Charles has left behind in life his wife, Ruth S. Young, and his grown children, Daniel (Alison) SandPoint, Idaho, Steve of Tampa Florida, and Russell (Sheila) of Fort Collins, CO as well as two step-daughters, Deborah Lynch of Horseheads and Cynthia Hess of Lexington, Kentucky.

He has seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Jeremy, Josh, and Sara Jane Young, Hilary Young, Brianna Young, Chelsea Raymond and Elizabeth Hess.

Charles entered the Air Force in 1950 and spent four years in active duty with several years thereafter in the reserves.
