H. Robert "Bob" Richter Obituary
H. Robert "Bob" Richter returned home to God on Tuesday October 22, 2013, after a temporary stay at Absolut Three Rivers.
Born November 9, 1922 in Corning, New York to John Bernard Richter and Mary Ann (Semple) Richter, Bob attended Grammar School Number 1 and graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1940.

He went on to attend Cornell University and Bucknell University but his education was shortened when he enlisted in the United States Navy and participated in V-12 training at Bucknell.

He was then transferred to Mid-Shipman School at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.

He was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve on November 22, 1944.

Shortly thereafter, he was assigned to Special Recognition School at Ohio State University.

After one month, he was assigned to active duty on the USS LSM #421 and served as Deck Officer.

While onboard, he participated in the Pacific, South Pacific and Asiatic theaters. Notable battles while in active service included Tinian, Guam, Leyte Gulf, Okinawa (where Bob earned a Battle Star) and as "posting" for the invasion group/initial occupation of Japan.

He was released from active duty in June 1946 as a Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Bob returned to Bucknell University and graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1947.

He returned to Corning, met and then married Lucille Mae Crants on June 24, 1950.

The two have remained constant companions, friends and lovers for 63 years.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Lucille; daughter, Barbara Richter of Corning, New York; son, Henry and his wife Rita, of Laramie, Wyoming; and son, Eric and his wife, Lorraine of Cumming, Georgia.

Bob's grandchildren are Carrie O'Malley, Westport, Ireland; Sarah Fritz, Ft. Collins, Colorado; Michael Fritz, Houston, Texas; Ethan, William and Caleb Richter, all of Laramie, Wyoming. Loving all of his grandchildren, he was nonetheless so excited to have five great-grandchildren: Quaye and Aidyn from Ft. Collins, Colorado; Violet Grace from Westport, Ireland; and recently born twins, Cora and Simon from Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Bob's life was full of many happy and fulfilling days.

As a young man he played with the All High semi-pro football team.

His love of sports took him to becoming the public address operator for the Corning Red Sox baseball team at Memorial Stadium.
Bob operated the Memorial Stadium public address system for Corning Free Academy and Northside football games. His 25 years of announcing football games also saw the introduction of Corning Painted Post East and West High Schools.
Bob was always so fond of watching the growth of many of the local areas athletes.

At times it seemed as if he lived to announce the old Friday night lights football games.

Bob was inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame and served as a Director and Treasurer of the organization.
Bob attended Painted Post Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school and served as Sunday School Superintendent.
He also served as a church Elder and Deacon.

Bob was proud of his 62 year affiliation with Ingersoll-Rand/Dresser Rand here in Painted Post. Whether as an employee or retired, he considered himself a member to the Ingersoll-Rand family.

He served as Manager of Employer Benefits for 35 years.

Bob retired in 1982 and spent time with Lucille traveling to Europe, Ireland and later falling in love with the great state of Wyoming and the Jackson Hole area.

Other activities that filled Bob's life were: Secretary of the former Painted Post Social Services Society; Charter Member and Director of the Painted Post Lions Club, where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow; member of the John P. Eaton Post 746 American Legion; and a member and President of the former Painted Post Village Zoning Board of Appeals.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the United Church of Painted Post, 201 North Hamilton Street, Painted Post, on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Kennedy presiding. The family welcomes you to come and share in celebrating Bob's life and to rejoice in his coming home.
