COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. | Wayne F. Lewis, Colorado Springs, CO, died January 9, 2014 at age 65.
He was born in Corning, NY, on June 26, 1948, the son of Floyd and Marjorie (Clark) Lewis, who predeceased him. A 1966 graduate of C-PP East High School he earned undergraduate degrees from Corning Community College and Eastern New Mexico University and a master's degree from Webster University.
Wayne is survived by his devoted wife Rhonda Shubber, sons David (Garrett Howell) Lewis, Denver, CO; and Jeffrey (Sherry) Lewis, Phoenix, AZ; stepson Noah Shubber, Houston, TX; and grandchildren Taylor and Caden Lewis, Phoenix, AZ.
He is also survived by siblings Kathryn (Marcia Stewart) Lewis, Corning , NY; Donald Lewis, San Antonio, TX; Ann (Douglas) Clark, New Lebanon, NY; and Kenneth Lewis, Corning, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Wayne served 22 years in the US Air Force, retiring as a Major in
1993. During his military career he served at numerous Air Force bases in the United States and abroad and was a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Active in his community, Wayne was involved in the Pikes Peak Humane Society, National MS Society, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the Broadmoor Waltz Club. In addition to spending time with family and friends, he enjoyed wood working, travel, sports, reading and ballroom dancing.
A celebration of Wayne's life will be held January 18, 2014, in
Colorado Springs. A graveside service will be held in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY, at a later date.
