Horseheads, N.Y. | Charles Paul Mattison, age 83 and longtime resident of Hickory Grove Rd,. in Horseheads passed away September 28, 2013. He was born Sept 8, 1930 in Gibson, NY to Lester H. Mattison and Irene M. (Folmar) Bliss.
He married Joyce Marie (Williams) Mattison on October 8, 2013 his wife of nearly 63 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by sons and daughters, Rev. R. Paul (Natalie) Mattison of Painted Post, NY, Doretta "Dorie" (Michael) Hughson of Big Flats Patricia Holmstrom of Horseheads, NY, Kenneth (Tanya) Mattison of Big Flats, NY, Julie (James) Kucko of Horseheads, NY, Nancy (Brian) Beebe of Horseheads, NY and Brian (Beth) Mattison of Horseheads, NY; Grandchildren, Malinda (Joseph) Hayes, Paul (Sarah) Mattison Jr. and Kevin (Jennifer) Mattison; Michael (Sarah) Hughson Jr., Nicole (Ryan) Gulich and Andrew (Erin) Hughson; Erik (Melissa) Holmstrom and Keil (Sara) Holmstrom; K. Scott Mattison II, Tyler Mattison and Cody Mattison; James Kucko II and Jared Kucko, Kyle Beebe and Nathan Beebe; Alyssa Mattison and Brian Mattison Jr.; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren, Reasa Frazer, Celina Wenzel Hughson, Laine Frazer, Shawna Hughson, Ethan Mattison, Renee Hughson, Ryan Gulich, Jr., Bryson Frazer, Kenneth Mattison, III. Brothers-law, Bradley (Anne) Williams, Ronald (Meryl) Williams, Walter Yochum and David Beeman; nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces, and close family friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, step-father, Earnest Bliss, brother, Lester Mattison, brother-in-law, William Bruielly, and sister-in-laws, Justine Mattison, D. Jean Beeman and Darlene Yochum.
Paul was a member of the Big Flats United Methodist Church and Horseheads Elks Lodge #2297.
He was a retired Scientific Glassblower having worked for Corning Apparatus Plant, Big Flats, NY, and later retired from Westinghouse Inc. and Mirion Technologies, Inc., Big Flats.
He was also an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Maranatha Bible Chapel, 774 Sing Sing Rd., Horseheads on Thurs., Oct. 3, 2013 from 5-7:00 pm. His service will be celebrated there by his son, the Rev. Paul Mattison at 7:00 pm. His graveside service will take place on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats.
All are invited to meet at 10:30 am at Barber Funeral Home for a procession to the cemetery.
