Delores Ann "Dee" Luckner Obituary
Delores (Dee) Ann Luckner, age 80, of Corning, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2014, surrounded by her loving husband and children. Dee was born on July 17, 1933 in Corning, New York, the daughter of the late Percival Huntley and Elizabeth Ann (Crannage) Share. She married Francis M. Luckner, III on March 1, 1952 at Christ Episcopal Church in Corning, New York.
After being a homemaker and raising seven children, Dee accepted a position with the CPP School District, working with children. Dee, also known as "Grandma," loved working with the children both in the schools and on the buses. In later life, her former students would frequently approach and thank her, telling her how she positively affected or changed their lives. Moments like that brought such joy and happiness to her life.
Dee was a lifelong was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she served as an usher. She was also a charter and founding member of the North Corning Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. Dee enjoyed the outdoors and frequently hiked and rode snowmobiles around the family cabin in the Adirondacks. She was an avid supporter of the Chemung County Humane Society and loved all animals, especially dogs (but not snakes). Dee loved to paint, was a talented artist and showed one of her paintings at Corning Community College Library. She loved Broadway plays and New York City, traveling abroad and throughout the United States with her husband Todd.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years: Francis M.(Todd) Luckner III; two daughters: Lucille (Lee) Smassanow, and Laurie (George) Hall; and five sons: Francis (Connie) Luckner, IV, David Luckner, Harold (Sheryl) Luckner, Samuel Luckner (Amanda Courtright), and Jay (Lisa) Luckner; brother: Samuel (Predeceased: Viola and Joyce) Share; sister-in-law: Judy (Walter) Luckner Doyle; mother-in-law: Bunny Luckner; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren (one on the way); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dee was predeceased by her brothers and their spouses: Clifford (Hazel), William (Margaret), John (Elsie), Robert, and Harold (Mary) Share; sisters: Elizabeth (William) Share-Saunders, Alice (Louis) Share-Keeney, and Florence (James) Share-Woodbeck.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church, 33 E. First Street, Corning, New York, with Reverend Kit Tobin officiating. Following the service, a light lunch will be served in the Houghton Lounge.
