Jeffrey William Davies Obituary
Durango, Colo. | Jeffrey William Davies, "The Voyager," age 41, of Durango, Colorado, died Sunday, April 27, 2014.
Born in 1973 to Terrance and Linda Bozinis Davies, he attended Corning schools and graduated from Corning West High School. He continued his education in Colorado at Fort Lewis College, graduating with a degree in environmental geology.
He is predeceased by his mother, Linda.
Survived by father, Terrance Davies and fiance Victoria of Corning; brother, Brian N. Davies of Durango; aunts, JoAnn Halleran (spouse, Robert) of Huntersville, N.C., Patricia Terry (spouse, William) of Corning, Marie Shea (spouse, Dudley) of Corning, Greta Bozinis (widow of George) of Horseheads; many cousins and extended family and friends.
Jeff's youthful pursuit of Little League, hockey, BMX racing, hunting, fishing and trapping was replaced in Durango by rock climbing, hang gliding, spelunking and all things adventurous – all of which earned him the nickname, "The Voyager."
Ralph Waldo Emerson's words were his inspiration: "Do not go where a path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." True to that mantra, he ascended the sheer rock faces of Colorado, California, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming blazing new climbing routes for others to enjoy.
Jeff also mapped caves throughout the U.S. and Mexico. He was a team leader for the National Parks Service in places like Lechuguilla Cave at Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, the seventh longest explored cave in the world. Often his partner in exploring was his beloved dog and companion, "Solo."
A Memorial honoring his brief life and beautiful spirit will take place this summer in Corning.
