John Joseph Dalessandro, 80, of Corning, NY passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2018 with family by his side and under the care of Carefirst Hospice. John (known to his friends as JD and Joe to his family) fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Pittston, PA on May 9, 1938 the son of the late John and Mary (Barletta) Dalessandro of Old Boston, PA.

As "Papa JD" he will be missed by granddaughters Logan, Catherine, Taylor, Hayle, Caitlyn and great granddaughters Melinda and Serenity from Irene's side of the family.

John always remained close to his sisters and brother and to their families. His surviving siblings are sisters Jean (Edward) Kizis of Corning NY, Theresa (Daniel) Ripa of Exeter PA, Liz (Fury) Derome of Pittston PA and brother Anthony (Deborah) Dalessandro of Old Boston, PA. Jennifer and Lynn Schack and Tonya Kizis were a great help with John's home care. He would not have been able to stay at home through his illness without their help. Debra Sabran accompanied Irene and John on almost every cancer treatment appointment and doctor's visit for the last two and a half years. Joshua Abbott, unofficial grandson, was an extraordinany help during JD's illness.

John worked for Corning Incorporated from 1956 to 2000 and he was very proud of his Corning career. He retired as Supervisor of Melting at Sullivan Park in 1997 but stayed with Corning a few more years working as a consultant. He was honored to be named a Corning M&P Associate in 1996.

John was a hunter and avid fisherman. He loved playing ball on the local baseball and softball leagues. Some of the his happiest times involved sharing the lake house on Lamoka Lake with friends and family.
