MARY CAROLINE (GRANDI) CAMERON Obituary
Mary Caroline Grandi Cameron, 82, of Corning, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Steuben County Health Care Facility.

Mary was born August 27, 1931, in Corning, the daughter of Nathan and Mary (Tammaro) Grandi (both deceased). She was also predeceased by her husband Leon Cameron in 1991 and her older brother John Grandi in 2012.

Mary was a 1949 graduate of Northside High School and continued her studies in music at Cornell University and Ithaca College.

She worked as an Executive Secretary at Corning Glass Works from 1949-1958. She also worked in public relations and social work at Corning Hospital until her retirement. She then found her true calling as a music teacher at All Saints Academy and continued to teach piano in her home long after her retirement from All Saints.

Mary remained busy in a variety of activities that impacted the community. She was an active member of All Saints Parish, particularly in the youth ministry. Her efforts as Chairperson of Education and Advocacy for the Corning Hospital Auxiliary helped save many lives.

She was a key supporter of the local Republican Party, promoting candidates, ushering crucial issues, and advocating the needs of the elderly in Steuben County. In keeping with her love of music and theater, Mary appeared in several plays in Elmira, Corning, and Keuka Lake Community Theater.

To fill her spare time Mary had many interests and hobbies. She was dedicated to her two sons and six granddaughters. She enjoyed traveling to Italy to visit family and making religious pilgrimages to Israel. She had a passionate love of classical music and was an expert on several composers. She had a deep interest in religion and could articulate differences in various religious philosophies. As a history buff, she enjoyed reading books and watching documentaries on subjects that shaped our world.

She is survived by her sons: Leon (Laura) Cameron and their children Sarah, Rachel, Anna, and Rebecca; Dave (Terri) Cameron and their children Caitlyn and Chloe; several cousins and many close friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Corning. Condolences may be sent at www.Aclystoverfuneralhome.com.
