Mary E. La Barr Obituary
Mary E. La Barr, age 83, of Corning passed away Thursday, April 10th, 2014 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 6, 1931 in Thurston, NY, the daughter of the late Lyman and Clara (Ripley) Phillips. She married Raymond La Barr on August 16, 1947 in Corning. He survives her.
Mary was educated in Corning and later received her health care training at Arnot-Ogden Hospital. She had been employed there as a nurse's aide for twenty years. Mary was a member of All Saints Parish of Corning. Her first love was caring for her husband, Raymond, and the family. Mary also enjoyed her rose garden, sewing and all forms of needle work, and spending time with her dog Rosie. She and Raymond traveled extensively in their motor home.
She is survived by her husband: Raymond La Barr; daughters: June (David) Cornell of Corning, NY, Princelia (Harold) Mathews of Zephyrhills, FL, and Darlene La Barr Webster of Wellsboro, PA; sisters: Princelia Dimick of Gang Mills, Bettie (Clair) Matteson of Corning, NY, M. Helen Phillips of Corning, NY, F. Patricia (Charles) Wilson of Pine City, NY, Lois (Ronald) Green of East Corning, NY, and Connie (Herbert) Mack of Caton, NY; one brother, Lyman (Lee) Phillips of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by sisters; S. Ann Paris, Lucille Phillips, and brothers Thomas, Charles and James Phillips.
Friends will be received Monday, April 14th from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Phillips Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St. Corning, NY. A Mass will be held Tuesday, April 15th at 11:00am at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Dodge Avenue in Corning. Burial will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Addison.
