Robert D. Cooper, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning (April 2, 2014) at his home on the Wallace Back Road (Town of Avoca), after a long illness.

Born in Avoca on February 26, 1928, he was a son of the late Harold and Gladys Bates Cooper.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his three brothers, Harold "Pete", Donald and Francis "Bud" Cooper and his two sisters, Mary Lou Robords and Doris "Midge" Rector.

A lifelong resident of the Avoca/Wallace area, Bob was employed his entire life as a farmer for the Ralph Perkins Farm in Avoca and retired from the Slayton Farms in Howard and Avoca.

When he was younger he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid collector of John Deer tractors and he also had an extensive collection of paper weights.

His loving family includes his wife of 67 years, the former Mary Towner, who he married in Avoca on March 29, 1947; his three children, Jean (Guy) Hattenbach of Corpus Christi, Tx., Bonnie (Kim) Bowen of Cohocton and Robert (Robin) Cooper of Avoca; his eight grandchildren, Keith, Michael, Jody, Bobby, Damon, Darin, Buddy and Shane; many great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard "Dick" (Marilyn) Cooper of Avoca; his five sisters, Bernie (James) Worden of Prattsburgh, Betty "Tootie"(Robert) Fisher of Rochester, Sally Hughes of Prattsburgh, Judy (Jerry) Zeh of Cohocton and Linda (Jeffrey) Gardner of Wheeler; also his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Avoca Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Robert D. Cooper.

Calling hours are from Noon-2 p.m. Sunday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 2 p.m. Sunday, with Pastor Barre Butts of the Avoca United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to either the Avoca Ambulance Corps, PO Box 52, Avoca, N.Y. 14809 or to the Dialysis Unit at Mercycare, 1 Bethesda Drive, Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
