Vivian Irene Dedrick Obituary
Miss Vivian Irene Dedrick, 84, of Addison, NY, formerly of Etruscan Lane, Corning, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at her home.

She was born in Corning, NY, the daughter of John F. and Elma L. (Gorton) Dedrick.

Vivian attended School 3 from 1935-1942 and Corning Free Academy from 1942-1948. During High school she worked in the office at J.J. Newberry Department Store. After graduating from Corning Free Academy in 1948, she worked for Sprague Insurance. In July of 1948, she joined Corning Incorporated. She spent 43 and a half years active service as an Administrative Assistant retiring in 1991. For 23 1/2 years Vivian was assistant to then Chairman of the Board and Mr. James R. Houghton (1968-1991).

Vivian loved to play her trumpet. She performed with the Corning-Painted Post Civic Music Association from 1944-1998, she played her trumpet in the Orchestra of the Finger Lakes and later when they became the Corning Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra from 1945-1998, as well as, the Corning Community Band from 1944-1950.

She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club from 1948-1968, serving as Chairmen for the Legislation Committee from 1964-1967, Chairman of the Civic Participation Committee from 1964 -1967, Hospital "S" from 1948-1968 and Vice Chairman from 1960-1963, Corning Workshop Players Actors Group from 1949-1953 and was a member of the Friends of the Corning Library from 1948, to Present, Chemung Valley Council on the Arts from 1975-1977, and the Corning Museum of Glass.

From the age of ten, Vivian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Corning. She was a Deacon, Nursery School Teacher and was on the Migrant Committee.

Vivian loved her home, family and friends. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and tending to her garden. She spent many hours listening to Classical and Band music.

Vivian is survived by her second cousins, Scott Wood of Buffalo, NY, Shawn & Penny Wood of Raleigh, NC, Heather Wood of Binghamton, NY, Geoff & Kellie Wood Tompkins of Binghamton, NY and Kimberly Dierwechter of Camp Hill, Pa. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Christine Trethaway.

Vivian will be missed by many of her co-workers and class mates who had gotten together up to the year 2010, and by the family that gave Vivian her health care these last years.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, at Coopers Cemetery, Painted Post, NY. A Memorial service will held at Acly-Stover Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014.
