Nancy Jean (Hazen) Machuga Obituary
Nancy Jean Hazen Machuga of 207 Seneca Street, Corning, New York, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at home surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

Nancy was born in Corning, New York on June 23, 1946 to Claude DuWayne Hazen and Jennie Caroline Burke Hazen. She attended the Northside primary, grammar and high schools and was a member of the Class of 1964, the first class to graduate from Corning-Painted Post East High School. After graduation Nancy was employed at Corning Glass Works. Upon her marriage on July 15, 1965 to Roger Allen Selander, she was a homemaker and worked part-time in various jobs. She was an employee of Ames Department Store in Painted Post until its closing in 2002. Nancy raised 4 children, the youngest being fraternal twins. On April 5, 1986, she married Robert Steven Machuga.

Nancy was a very loving and dedicated daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader, especially enjoying genealogy and historical subjects such as the military history of the United States. With her mother, Nancy co-authored and published two genealogies pertaining to her maternal Burke and Gleasman lines: "A Burke Family" and "The Gleasman's in America". She was proud to descend from 2 native Americans, Lucinda Davis Andrus (Mohawk) and Margaret Meekins (Cheraw) on her paternal side. Nancy was a past member of the She-qua-gah Chapter D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), the Johos Genealogical Group, Twin Tiers Genealogical Society, and the Town of Orange Historical Society. She established her own website called "Grandma's Cabin: Genealogy by Nancy Machuga" that contains a great amount of her years of historical research. She also played a vital role in preserving the Gleasman Homestead Farm in Ava, NY. Nancy enjoyed traveling to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and had a special love for cats. She will be deeply missed.

Nancy was pre-deceased by her father, Claude on August 8, 1999 and her mother, Jennie on June 5, 2013.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Machuga; her daughter, Lisa (Ronald) Cook of Ballston Lake, NY; her sons Scot (Brenda) Selander of Corning, John (Pattie) Selander of Groton, CT, and Todd Selander of Corning. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Alexander and Caroline Granger of Ballston Lake, NY, Madison, Emily and Jackson Selander of Groton, CT.

Calling hours will be held at Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC, 14 East Pulteney Street in Corning, NY on Saturday, July 5, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A graveside service at the family plot in Coopers Plains Cemetery in Painted Post will immediately follow the calling hours.
