Jon M. Truax Obituary
Jon M. Truax passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2014 at home on the Meads Creek Road. He was 79 years old. Born May 31, 1935 to the late Elizabeth Warden Truax and Maurice Truax.

Jon graduated from Northside High School in 1953 and began working as an electrician for Corning Glass Works. He became a Trades and Services Supervisor at Sullivan Park until his retirement from Corning Incorporated in 1993 with 40 years of active service.

Jon married Lorraine Bailey in June of 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Painted Post. In 1986 they started Truax's Tannenbaum Farm. Jon loved the land and everything that went along with farming Christmas trees. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, giving his grandchildren tractor rides, and taking care of his dogs.

Jon served in the National Guard from 1953 to 1962. He was a member of the Corning Masonic Lodge No. 1038, the First Baptist Church of Painted Post and the New York State Christmas Tree Farmers Association.

He is survived by his devoted wife Lorraine Truax; daughters: Rebecca (David) Griffing of Oneonta, Stephanie (Mark) Embree of Pine City, Elizabeth (Robert) Hostottle of Painted Post; grandchildren: Aaron and Rachel Griffing, Matthew and Luke Embree, Jonathan and Emily Hostottle; sister, Ann (Edwin) Palmer of Charleston, SC; brother-in-law, Wayne (Helen) Bailey of Painted Post; and three nieces.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Painted Post on Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Gary McCaslin officiating. Friends and family may gather at the church one hour prior to the service. Jon's family has entrusted his care to Phillips Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care First, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830 or the First Baptist Church of Painted Post, 130 W. Water Street, Painted Post, NY 14870.
