1928 – 2013
Col. Myles H. Mierswa, Sr., graduated from Xavier Military HS in NYC, Fordham Univ. & The Naval Post Graduate School, Enlisted in the US Army
from 1946 – 1948, he received his regular Army commission. As a Distinguished Military Graduate, he was sent to Korea. He was wounded twice on Heartbreak Ridge as a forward observer. He taught Military History at the University of Minnesota
and attended flight school in 1957. He served 3.5 years in Viet Nam, where he flew armed helicopters, a transport airplane, and commanded the 4th Aviation Battalion during the battles of Doc To & Tet of 1968.
He became a Professor at the Army's Command and General Staff College, afterwards Commander of the Army Training Device Agency, then the Project Manager for Simulation in Orlando, FL. During his career he was awarded over forty medals and decorations including the Silver Star, 2 Legion of Merits, Distinguished Flying Cross, 12 Air Medals, 2 Purple Heart
Col. Mierswa is survived by his children: Kathleen Mierswa of HI, Michael Mierswa of FL, Veronica Sanders of IL, Mary K Judy of CA; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother Tom Mierswa. He was preceded in death by his son Capt. Myles H Mierswa, Jr and his second wife, Wilda Mierswa.
Services are to be held in Florida.
