1942 - 2014
Manuel Barbosa passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 after a long battle with leukemia. He was born June 4, 1942 in Pacoima, CA to Joe and Connie Barbosa, the second of four children including brother Peter and sisters Susie and Terrie. At 20 years old Manuel married Sharon Lussenhop and they welcomed 5 children and 12 grandchildren.
He attended Notre Dame High School, Cal State Northridge, and U.C.L.A
. Law School. After law school "Manny", as he was known, joined the Teamsters Union as a contract negotiator and was the head of two Teamster Locals when he retired at 57 years old. He was active in Democratic politics, the labor movement, Latin American Civic Association, and Latino politics. He also was involved with local sports: SCVAA Football, Canyon Country Little League, and the Canyon Touchdown Club.
Manuel is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon; his daughter Shari (Phil) Smith and children: Stephanie, Erika, Nicole, and Rachel; his son Joe (Ann) Bostwick and children: Joe Jr, Jenna, and Amy; his daughter Jennifer (Alex) Tamin and children: Brandon, Matthew, and Brooke; his son Jeff (Karen) Ito and children: Bradley and Ayla; his daughter Michelle (Mark) Hunter. He also leaves his brother Peter (Diane) Barbosa and their children: Norman (Mary) and daughters Julia and Eva and Virginia (Brian) and daughter Isadora; his sister Terrie (Jim) and their children: Connie, Tim, Calla, and Emily.
He will be missed by his large and loving family that he was so proud of.
