1923 - 2013

Deborah Mary Wubben passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the age of 89, with family at her side in Santa Clarita, CA. She was born in Oakland, CA on November 1, 1923, the daughter of William Henry Wubben of Indiana and Deborah Phelan Wubben of Halifax, Nova Scotia. She spent her early years growing up in the San Francisco area, then, with her family, relocated down to Culver City, CA. She attended St. Bridget's Elementary School, Hamilton High School and UCLA. After her college graduation in 1944, she began her career in the Admission's Office of UCLA. She served the University of California system, working in Admissions for nearly 36 years; first at UCLA, then UC Berkeley, with responsibility for under-graduate admissions statewide, and finally to UC Santa Cruz, where she worked until her retirement in 1980.

Prior to making her final move down to Southern California on May 5, 2011, she lived for over 40 years in beautiful Spring Lakes Mobile Home Park in Scotts Valley, CA. She had a great love for travel, research and genealogy, which she pursued for over 30 years after her retirement, and she belonged to many genealogical organizations and societies throughout the United States and Canada. She will be remembered for her generosity and loyalty to family and friends.

She is survived by her niece, Margaret (Peggy) Wubben-Weiler (Michael), of Santa Clarita, CA; great-niece Ann M. Lowther (Dominic) of San Diego, CA; great-nephew Gregory Hilzer (Christine) of McKinney, TX; five great-great nieces and nephews: Victoria Hilzer, Jonathan Hilzer, Emily Hilzer, Natalie Lowther, and Ethan Lowther.

Per her request, a private family Mass was held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the St. Joseph's Monastery of Poor Clares in Aptos, CA. Any donations made in her name, may be sent to St. Joseph Monastery of Poor Clares, P.O. Box 160, Aptos, CA 95001-9160, The Santa Cruz Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 72, Santa Cruz, CA 95063-0072, and/or The Santa Cruz S.P.C.A., 2685 Chanticleer Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 90565.
