1926 – 2014
The Guest Book is expired.
Doris Louise Woodings passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in Valencia, CA with her family by her side.
Mom, Grandma or Sweetie Grandma, as she was known to many, can best be described as a quiet, gentle woman who dearly loved her family, her crafts and her Lord. Although she left only a small footprint in the world, her absence is huge.
Doris was both a quiet and adventurous woman. Many are unaware that she owned and sailed her own sailboat for many years and was a big basketball fan, watching games almost nightly. More important though, she was strong in her faith in God and confident of her salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
She was born in 1926 in Vancouver, WA and spent her later years in Castaic, CA. Doris ran her own bakery businesses and worked as the bookkeeper for Dana Point Marina and other firms. Crafts made from simple materials were her passion though and many cherish her creations.
Her most important positions, however, were mom and grandma. Her family was dear to her. Doris recently wrote about her family, "What more can one wish for in life...all the money in the world can't give you that."
Doris is survived by her son Michael and daughter-in-law Judy; son Robert and daughter-in-law Leslie; grandchildren: Daniel Woodings, Jeffrey Woodings, Stephanie Sabosky, and Natalie Woodings; as well as, nine great-grandchildren that she adored: Gabrielle, Nathan, Roman, and Emmarie Woodings, Jaden and Ava Woodings, and Jack, Ella, and Will Sabosky ~ all miss their Sweetie GG. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Zella Updike, her sister Betty Dopson, and her brother Donald Updike.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Grace Baptist Church, 22833 Copper Hill Dr, Santa Clarita, CA 91350. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church Missions (www.gracebaptist.org/internationalmissions).
