Helen Lincavage was born June 13, 1926 in rural Pennsylvania to Harry and Anna Shaposka, one of 15 children. Her parents were immigrants from the Austria/Hungary area and entered the U.S. through Ellis Island in Upper New York Bay. Growing up, she had to help milk the cow and assist with other chores. She lived through the Great Depression. Toward the end of World War II, during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, she lost her brother, Steve.
In 1946 she married George W. Lincavage and they lived in Coal Center, PA before moving to Cleveland, OH. In 1949 their son George S was born and in 1954 their daughter Janet was born. In December 1959, the family moved to Granada Hills, CA. Helen also lived in Northridge and Saugus, CA. Her husband George passed away in 1988.
Helen's interests included interior design, landscaping, and fashion. One of her favorite television shows was "Wheel of Fortune". She always taught her children to "do your best! Life is not a free ride. If you want to be successful, you need to work hard to achieve your goals".
Helen was granted her eternal rest on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the age of 87. She is survived by her son George (Patricia) Lincavage of Columbia, TN; daughter Janet Rodriquez of Saugus, CA; granddaughter Jennifer Rodriquez of Santa Clarita, CA; grandson Richie (Michelle) Rodriquez of Pleasant Hill, CA; brother Harry (Wilma) Shaposka of Cleveland, OH; numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
A viewing will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321. A funeral mass will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5 at St. Kateri Parish, 22508 Copper Hill, Santa Clarita, CA 91350. Burial will follow at Eternal Valley, with a reception immediately following.
The family extends their deepest thanks for all the love and support during these past three months.
