1940 - 2013

Larry Loughmiller of Valencia, CA passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at UCLA Medical Center. He was 72 and is survived by his mother Mabel Loughmiller; brothers: Bob Loughmiller and Don Loughmiller; wife Sudchai Loughmiller and his children: Jon Loughmiller, Lori Olsen, and Jim Loughmiller. He had eight grandchildren at the time of his passing and another due in June. He had the rare distinction of being grandfather to two sets of identical twins.

He was born in Twin Falls, ID in November 1940 and grew up the son of a farmer with his two brothers in Southern Idaho. He attended school in Buhl, ID. He went to the University of Idaho and graduated with a bachelor's degree, and also earned a master's degree from Troy University.

Larry was a Lt. Col. in the US Air Force (ret.) and was a pilot of the F-4 Phantom. He served 3 tours of duty during the Vietnam War and was proud of his 20 years of service. He was an engineer at heart and loved figuring out how things worked. After his discharge from the military, he worked at Lockheed Martin for 27 years. He was a doer and loved having a purpose, but finally decided to retire in 2011.

He enjoyed camping and fishing, and always tried to catch his limit. He also enjoyed exploring the US doing road-trips with his truck, trailer, and a map. He made regular trips to Thailand, where he met his Thai wife and was stationed during the Vietnam War. He told her that he would keep her and that she was his souvenir from the war. He loved football and was a regular jogger, which became walking as he grew older. He could often be seen walking the neighborhood or on a treadmill at the local gym, or even doing laps at the local mall on hot days. He also enjoyed keeping an active mind through reading his daily paper and doing crosswords and sudoku. He was smart and stubborn and enjoyed a good debate, but at the end of the day, he was always right, even when he wasn't.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Valencia United Methodist Church, 25718 McBean Pkwy, Valencia, CA where Larry was a regular parishioner (with Pastor John Shaver as officiant). He will be interred at the family plot in Twin Falls, ID and join his father L. W. Loughmiller who passed away in 2005.

"Larry was a good man and will be missed by many, but God needed an angel and he got a serviceman with a strong sense of duty and gave him back his wings."
