1914 – 2013

Jewell was born May 14, 1914 in Cowgill, MO to Charles and Georgia Trumbo. He left Missouri at age 18 and came to California by train box car. He wed Hilda Johnson from Vermont and was married 69 years before her passing. Jewell passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013.

Jewell with his wife Hilda originally founded the Trumbo's Welcome Home where most observed the Trumbo's Welcome Home sign since 1962 on the Sierra Hwy Road across from the landmark Halfway House Café. He made the holidays special as family gatherings let him enjoy his passion for cooking. He also loved painting and hand making clocks from wood collected from his travels.

He retired after 35 years of service from Western Airlines in the late 70's . In his retirement years Jewell and Hilda traveled across North America in their RV. They loved spending summers fishing at the family farmhouse in Craftsbury Common, VT and visiting family and friends they had met throughout the years.

He was an avid participant in their Church Senior Community and they traveled various landmark vacation spots, which included being baptized in the Jordan River in Jerusalem, the Holy Land.

Everyone knew they could go to Jewell for advice, shelter, and he often gave great opportunities to those that may have never had a chance to have the lifestyle that is only dreamed about. He was the umbrella of our family - gave of his wisdom, his heart, and always valued ethics, honesty and hard work.

He leaves a family of 1 son, 2 daughters, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 Sierra Hwy., Newhall, CA 91321
